The History of Joint Stock Company LAIMA

Laimas fabrikaLaimas pulkstenis The history of joint stock company LAIMA begins at the end of the 19th century. In 1870, a manufacturer named Theodore Rigerts started making chocolate products in Riga. His traditions were taken over by joint stock company LAIMA in 1924, which expanded manufacturing and sold its production not only in Latvia, but also in France, England, the USA and other countries. In 1881, the tinned food and candy factory L. W. Goegginger was established. The company produced candy, chocolate and biscuits, as well as different kinds of tinned food. In 1940, both companies were expropriated and renamed (respectively) confectionery factories Laima and Uzvara. Laima specialized in chocolate confectionery, whereas Uzvara specialized in the manufacturing of sugar.

Privatization took place for Laima in 1993 and in 1994 for Uzvara; both were turned from state enterprises into joint stock companies.

In January 1998, joint stock company LAIMA was joined with joint stock company UZVARA, keeping the title Joint Stock Company LAIMA and preserving two trademarks: Laima and Uzvara.

Staburadzes fabrika The famous Latvian entrepreneur Vilhelms Ķuze established the sweets factory Staburadze in 1910. The key to the success of Ķuze’s factory was his style of management, its professional workers, modern machines and the successful marketing and attractive packaging of the products. Ķuze’s products were exported to Russia, North America, Australia and even some countries in Asia. In the times of the Socialist Republic of Latvia, the factory became well known throughout the Soviet Union with the name 17. jūnijs (17 June).

In 1996, the company was privatised and the joint stock company Staburadze was established.
