Today, on November 25th, the “Laima” Charity House is opened in the city centre besides the legendary “Laima” clock for the fifth year in a row, the aim of which is, with the help of public support, to fulfil the cherished dreams of long-awaited Christmas gifts of more than 1100 Latvian impoverished large families and the small patients of the Children’s Clinical University Hospital’s Oncology Department.
Continuing the tradition started in 2015 – the first child-made card from the “Laima” Charity House’s wonder-tree was chosen today by President Raimonds Vejonis lady Mrs. Iveta Vejone. This year, the Vejonis family will fulfil the Christmas wishes of six children in a foster family in Ligatne County.
“I am truly delighted to begin the magical Christmas season by launching this heartfelt charity project which, with the company’s full support, will emit light and provide brighter holidays for Latvian children from low-income families and the Children’s Clinical University Hospital’s Oncology Department patients. I encourage everyone to participate and support this initiative, by imagining and feeling the warmth that is created by a child’s joy at the festive tree, when they receive the long-awaited gift” shares The President’s lady, Mrs Iveta Vejone.
The Charity House’s opening event was also attended by the Vilcins family from the Daugavpils district, Kalupe County who were greeted last Christmas by President Raimonds Vejonis Mrs Iveta Vejone as part of the “Laima” Charity House Project, by fulfilling the family’s holiday wish and providing long-awaited gifts for the children’s talent development.
“Each year we begin the countdown for the end of the year holidays with the opening of the “Laima” Charity House, where the “Laima” brand embodies the festive miracle, by continuing this warm tradition and conjuring up brighter and warmer holidays for low-income Latvian large families and the little patients of the Children’s Clinical University Hospital’s Oncology Department. This year, marking the Charity House’s fifth anniversary, we want to please even more children, by bringing festive wonders into their homes, “ explains “Orkla Confectionery & Snacks Latvia” Public Relations and Communications Manager Lineta Miksa.
For the third year in a row the Children’s Hospital Foundation is also involved in the “Laima” Charity House project, in order to please and provide a Christmas miracle to 35 little patients of the Oncology Department, who will have to spend the holidays in the hospital.
“Nothing beats the happy smile on a child’s face, when receiving a long-awaited gift, especially at the hospital where the holiday season is quieter and less joyful. Thanks to the “Laima” Charity House and public support, for a number of years it was possible to provide this pleasure to the little patients of the Children’s Clinical University Hospital’s Oncology Department. We are grateful for the cooperation to date and we believe that this year together we will be able to delight even more children across Latvia,” says the Children’s Hospital Foundation Chairman of the Board Liene Dambina.
Everybody are very welcome to visit the “Laima” Charity House up to January 2nd, 2017, from 12:00 to 21:00 to choose card from the Charity House’s wonder tree and, by preparing a gift, to fulfil the passionate dreams of long-awaited presents for those children whose families cannot afford it themselves these holidays.
The “Laima” Charity House next to the “Laima” clock opens this year for the fifth consecutive year, and in total, since 2012, it has fulfilled the Christmas dreams for more than 2100 children.
